Carley Ernst – Changing the Narrative for Mothers & Pro-Athletes.
BRIEF
Carley plays professional basketball for the Melbourne Boomers, and the club wanted to spotlight her remarkable achievement after coming back to the game just four months after giving birth. The piece should connect on an emotional level and show that the club values its athletes as people first before players.
EXECUTION
Having worked with the Boomers for a number of months, we had B-roll and scenes of Carley and baby Kylan ready to go on a hard drive already. It was then a matter of fitting in an interview to bring the footage to life and hear from Carley herself. This proved challenging given her schedule, and we had far less time than was ideal, but we made it work and really need to thank Carley for making the time to sit down with us.
As with all human-interest pieces, the choice of music was essential, and once we created the narrative from Carley’s interview, it became obvious that something some and emotionally charged would suit best. Having slow-motion footage suited the story perfectly, and we were glad to have captured Carley and baby Kylan together on the basketball court in some touching moments.
FINAL THOUGHTs
Carley is the reason we do what we do. To connect and inspire others is what good storytelling is all about, and we are always glad to have the opportunity to take on projects with substance and depth.
Oh and Carley is a great basketball player, which also needs to be acknowledged!
