BRIGHTSIDE ART –
FRANKSTON MURAL.
BRIEF
Kyle from Brightside Art embarked on an epic 70m long mural to brighten up an underpass in Frankston – a southern, bayside suburb of Melbourne. This being the biggest project for Brightside to date, Kyle wanted to document the process through a month-long video shot on location and briefly in studio. Kyle wanted to show the process, execution, and final result – while spotlighting key partner brands who were sponsoring him during the mural. The outputs included a full 4:30 length video, a number of Instagram stories for partner brands to share via their channels, and over 200 still images of the process and end result.
EXECUTION
Painting of the mural took around one month, and we chose strategic points in the process to film over seven days total. Filming sought to show key milestones and the full variety of techniques and mediums Kyle used throughout painting, as well as some behind-the-scenes access in his studio.
Given Kyle’s style and punk rock aesthetic, the decision was made to engage local musician, Reece Hickey, to produce a custom soundtrack. This gave us more control when considering how to build the story for the final video that we could never achieved using existing music. Reece was extremely patient and professional in post-production, where we made necessary changes to ensure the footage, story arc, and music all matched perfectly.
FINAL THOUGHTs
This was a grind when thinking about the countless hours of footage we had to work with, however the final result was well worth it. Working with custom music is a great experience, and opens up so many possibilities. We really want to continue to explore having music written for our clients going forward if possible. This was a fun project and look forward to seeing how it helps Kyle and Brightside Art with their growth.
